the Road Back to Taos…
and escape from…
Lightly embellished tales of adventure, inspirations, hot springs and profound connections… On the road, in the air and over the seas… raw, unedited prose and in no particular order.
🇦🇷 Buenos Aires & Caminito - 03.29.23
I could not get oriented in this place. I thought I knew what direction I was going and was perpetually confused looking at google maps convinced that it was changing ordinal directions daily… something to do with being all upside down in the Southern Hemisphere is my scientific conclusion.
🇦🇷 Buenos Aires - Cementerio de la Recoleta & Getting from Point A to B - 03.24.23
So… the lovely bus women of Buenos Aires ushered me off the bus and in the right direction in an endearing way… like a baby bird… like a little lost California baby bird.
Buenos Aires 🇦🇷 Chapter One - Los Primeros Días - 03.22.23
They have something close to a croissant that is called a “medialuna” and it rocks. It has a high butter content and is rich and dense, and I believe they put an addictive powder from the Amazon jungle in it to make you want to never stop eating them.

🇲🇽 Coyoacán CDMX and El Metro - 03.17.23
I have never been anywhere with so many human beings crammed in one spot. I mean… I have officially entered the local gene pool simply by osmosis because I we were pressed so tight…
🇲🇽 Querétaro and the Mexican Bus System - 03.15.24
So… now… I wake up this morning in the very cool Coyoacán CDMX… surrounded by 21 million people, not far from the Frida Kahlo house… in the largest metropolitan city in the western hemisphere…
🇲🇽 San Miguel de Allende & Escondido Place - 03.14.23
I saw lots here but far from all… because I do plan to return to the region and do have the intention of leaving something for the next time.
🇲🇽 One Week in Guanajuato City 💙 - 03.05.23
“I landed here purely out of circumstance. The last day of my apartment lease in Berkeley would be the end of February and couple of months ago I had set a specific date to be in San Miguel de Allende which was March 6th… and a boy needs to be somewhere in between.”
Oaxaca City - Hierve El Agua 2.2.23
“I never found my rhythm in Oaxaca City… I didn’t find the nature elements that are important to me so I had difficulty connecting. Some of which is the dynamic of connecting with fellow travelers. Good things and not so enjoyable things. I don’t go into adventures with much intention… just the idea of stepping into a flow. And this one, I never found the flow and was quite happy to return to my home base in Berkeley.”
Whidbey Island via Fidalgo/Similk Bay - 3.22.22
There’s a rain delay on Whidbey Island… ☕️🕉🔥 so a pitstop in Oak Harbor is in order. And the coffee is outstanding… and GenX grunge/alternative classics playing… and I’m toasty warm… and thank you baby buddha
Earthquake Berkley & Explorations of Sonoma County - Petaluma, Sebastapol, Snoopy’s Ice - 12.17.22
I had a few hours between places in Berkeley… I decided to go to the coast. That’s why I landed here. The ocean. My 3 hours trip turned into a 4 day adventure. Spontaneous existence… I dig that about my life.
Seattle Round 1 - The Atmospheric River - 01.07.22
This would be the first trip by air in 3 years and would be the beginning of rounds of travel since I had dissolved my life in Denver. I traded my house and comfort for a life of perpetual adventure. I had never been to Seattle… so that is where I shall go… I just didn’t pay attention that it was the middle of winter and the PNW has something called an atmospheric river.
Belize City - The Taxi Chronicles - 03.06.22
…when MrEvan would swerve within one inch of a light pole, or bridge railing, or motorcycle, or fruit stand… I would calmly pull my arm back in the window and then reinsert my arm hanging out the window (as you should do while riding shotgun in any 80s sedan) when the danger had passed. Zen by example.
Tecpán, Iximche and the Rental Car - The Rough Road to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala - 04.25.22
“I’ve spent more time in Antigua than I had in my casita in Española, NM. As I was walking around, locals that I had met would wave and smile. I so adore that… it reinforces my thoughts on the importance of a supportive community and having a home base to return to. Also, it means I’ve been here too long and the boy can’t sits still…”
Kintla Lake at Glacier National & the NyQuil Overdose in the WhiteFish Med Center Parking Lot - 07.24.21
“I woke up in the parking lot of the WhiteFish Medical Center… only mildly believing I knew my own name. I was in an over-the-counter drug haze or possible NyQuil overdose…”
