🇺🇸 Hospital - Denver - Surgery Part 2 - 06.26.2026
I was in Denver for some medical tests on my birthday. I’ve had 5 months of painful complications from a intestine blockage surgery… or as result of a curse from a scorned Mexican woman… maybe two women. Maybe all of the above. Whatever the source… I’ve been miserable but it’s finally in the process of getting tracked down.
The U.S. health system is filled with horrible bureaucracy. Insurance is a mess… and you can only use it in your home State… unless it’s an emergency. Getting an appointment is a headache. It was a month wait just to see my Doctor… and that was to get a referral to a specialist… which I had to wait another month… and then wait 2 weeks for a CT scan appointment. Sound efficient? Sound healthy?
I finally made it to the CT scan appointment (on my birthday) and the process takes about 5 minutes… and you’re done. They told me they were backed-up in the radiology department so I shouldn’t see results for another week. “Fuck sake! I’m dying here!!!”
I am begging for resolve… I want to get back to my normal life… my adventures… my normal weight… I’m 15 kilos down. I continue to go through the motions to have some grasp on mental stability… and fun… and apapapcho… and tacos… and motos… and hot springs… and on and on…
I had a mid-afternoon fight back to San Francisco yesterday. I was on the plane… the doors closed… and we were about to taxi down the runway… and my phone rang. “Denver Health” - it was my doctor… she said, “we have you CT scan results and you have a blockage (and all kinds of other unpleasant things) and you need to go to the Emergency Room immediately.”
“Right now?!?” I said, “I’m on an airplane.”
“Airplane?!? Can you get off???”
I couldn’t… we are moving and I didn’t believe I was in a life threatening situation. I was told to go straight to an ER in San Francisco when I arrived. And with a little more dialogue and assessment. She said I could wait until morning.
I don’t have California heath insurance… but my Colorado insurance should cover an emergency… but I had another option… take the next flight back to Denver… and be in my home system… my insurance will be covered… and I have support… friends and places to stay. So… I booked the return flight.
I literally went to baggage claim to pick up my pack… and walked it straight over to check-in and dropped my bag off. Boarded the plane an hour later and was in Denver… and ultimately sitting in a hospital bed by midnight.
So… here I am again… they are resolved to flush my system and send me home… but because of the length of time from the complications from the last operation and I never fully recovered to normal… I’m being prepped for another surgery. Fun stuff.
I want relief… so I’m fine with it… and… I get some good drugs. I’m in room 406B at Denver Health if you want to visit… I’ll tell you all the stories of the Latina curses that have been put on me…
I think I need a limpia… after this… clear the curses. That will be one trip to Peru. One to Ecuador, and 5 trips to Mexico… (a few too many curses out of Mexico) 🤨
