Sausalito, Muir Beach & One Vintage Typewriter Table - 11.16.22
I came to the end of a continent to be close to this…
I drove over another bridge thing yesterday to make my way to Sausalito. It was the I-580 bridge, or THE 580 bridge, or the Richmond Bridge… I don’t know all the names of all the things yet but I paid a toll and for that I will give it my own name. I will call it, “the MoonBerry Bridge”… it came to me in a dream.
I was picking up a vintage typewritter table I bought to chop my vegatables on and to one day put my vintage typewriter on. My cool 40s Royal typewriter is still in Taos and I will someday soon need to walk backwards through the wardrobe door to retrieve it. If you want to read the full essay on my typewriter and typewriter table… AND my fictionalized account of kicking out the back panel of the wardrobe in Taos and entering a magical place as the protagonist in a movie with a screen play that has not yet been written… visit your local library to find several Xerox copies I ran off in the print store in Berkeley and placed there myself.
I’m thinking about taking a creative writing class… I’m practicing.
Anywho, I had a great chat with the gal who sold me the table. She lives on a hill overlooking the bay with her husband. She has the greenest eyes I have ever seen and they glowed bright in the sun… and I was constantly distracted by them as we chatted about the moments that brought us to this moment.
The last time I was in Sausalito was around 10 years ago with the Oberleas kids. We went to a joint on the harbor that had the best fish and chips and I longed to be there again. The place is still there… so I indulged… and it was great but you can never relive such memories… but it was more about closing a circle than anything else. The meal was super greasy which didn’t agree with my high veggie diet. But still… snacks 🥰
Making rounds while on an errand is my MO… and since I was over the bridge, I hit the Muir Overlook and then Beach and some trails. And all is very clear why I wanted… needed… and was called to be here.
I hacked the following from MsColleen from our conversation this morning… she gets credit… 🙏 and 🤗 and some 😘 for her inspirations. Win and win for me…
“The scenery of the ocean, however sublime in vast expanse, seems far less beautiful to us dry-shod animals than that of the land seen only in comparatively small patches; but when we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty.” - John Muir, Nature Writings
Everyday is an adventure… today is laundry day adventure. Let me know if you want to ride along…
In another movie, I would have a dog named “Sausalito.” The Adventures of Durango and Sausalito. I’d totally go to that movie! 🤠🐶
