Columbia River Gorge - BC Loop

Before I murble on and on about my adventures while my work piles up in a far off land… know this… pizza scissors are the greatest thing ever invented in the history of all mankind… ever!! This is the second time this year I’ve come across such a thing and I’m wondering why it took this long.
✂️❤️🍕

I’m hanging around the Columbia River Gorge area for a few extra days because, Lesa from the White Salmon River retreat compound asked me to come back to land sit and do a frequency painting demo. She wants me to do some painting workshops in the future… and after going on and on about my travels, she wants a caretaker for the property when she travels. And yes and also yes.

The Columbia River Gorge has a ton of outdoorsy stuff to do… on the river and in the hills. I parked myself at the Carson Hot Springs for a night. It’s a basic facility and a 2 star hotel. The hotel was exactly 2 stars… too clean for 1 star and not clean enough for 3. I was happy enough. ⭐️⭐️

The hot springs is less than aesthetic considering the beauty of the surrounding area. Indoor therapy pool with iridescent tiles and very sterile. Not the easiest on the eyes but the pool was clean, and the refresh rate was high, the water temp was hot and it had a jacuzzi jet system that was turned on by a light switch by the front door, and it is so powerful that it will blow your swim pants clean off your body, and into the hands of the nice lady across the pool… who (likely) in no way wants you walking over in your birthday suit to retrieve them. “Howdy, my name is Durango, I’m here to retrieve my swim pants…” 🫣

I pushed a little deeper into the Columbia River to check out a kayak/SUP launch in Deschutes, OR. I needed a rest after and found a cheap room in the farm town of Wasco, OR. I explored the town in exactly 7.5 seconds and one can find interesting things anywhere but the place is barely on the map.

My cheap room that wasn’t that cheap and wasn’t a room but an entire farm house… had an amazing eclectic style… but when I woke in the morning... I replaced the words “amazing” and “eclectic” to “a whole lotta crap.” Fun stuff but it looked like a thrift store exploded inside. And it smelled like a thrift store. You know that smell.

Driving out of Wasco in the morning, there were spectacular views of Mt Hood surrounded by wheat fields. The roads had next to no traffic, are perfect, smooth, wide and the sweeping hills would make for a very lovely motorbike ride through the country. I stopped to watch some lucky being flying their aero plane machine around the fields. They were scraping the hill tops. I decided to boogie before he scraped me… all “North by NorthWest” style (total old movie reference, look it up!)

Back for a day and night in the Thoreau cabin in BZ Corner and another go at the White Salmón River. And 3 more goes at the outdoor shower. All very much a treat and I feel lucky to land here for a second time. I have a long drive ahead today because I saw something called “Thor’s Well” on Atlas Obscura, and now I must go there… 4.5 hours away, on the coast, and no closer to home. And nothing new… like i like it.
