Pecos Wilderness, NM - 08.06.23
Yesterday’s hike in the extensive Pecos Wilderness; not far out of the village of Peñasco, NM. It’s the Southern most end of the granite-y Rocky Mountains chain and is a sweet spot for me in this State… and lends some Colorado without being in the Colorado.
It’s full of life… and the pollinators ruled the day. The butterflies were literally posing… I’d step close to take a picture and they’d turn to the side, nose in the air… “ok… take your picture, fella!” Bees, and weird fly things and all kinds of beings with wings… delish.
There’s a whole lot of desert in the State of New Mexico and this is not it. It’s an oasis of ions and liveliness… and it makes my Taos, long-ish term, existence tolerable.
It was a nice break from my 2 weeks of severe OCD deep cleaning and clearing (with the sage and everything) of my space on Ledoux Street. I have pulled all my things together in one place (with the exception of a single load in San Francisco… and a couple of motorcycles in CO if you’re counting) for the first time since I left Denver. My studio here is beautiful, historic… and just ideal for a working artist. I feel very lucky… but I struggle with the isolation of small town life… and my heart and soul (and mind) want to reside on the Pacific coast.
Well… I’m here and will make the most of it until the universe leads me elsewhere. I’m working at renting out the gallery space for yoga, cacao meditations, art shows… sacrifices… cult activity… whatever to help cover the rent.
If you’re in town… looking for a gallery space or a ceremonial cult gathering… look me up. Otherwise… I’ll be in Santa Fe next month for a writers retreat to help me start “the book.” Seattle at the end of September, Scotland in October, South America in November… and of course, lots of Denver in between. If you’re in any of those places and will be kind enough to join me for Dim Sum… I’ll tell you about all the richness of the [3rd] poorest State in the Union that is known as the Newest of all the Mexicos.
