🇲🇽 Teotihuacán - Round II - 04.07.2026
This is my second trip to Teotihuacán. The first was almost exactly 2 years ago (13.03.24). I went with ChilangaSil… and that lady had a thing about bringing me on death marches through Mexico City. Seriously, 15,000 steps a day and she wouldn’t let me drink water. Three days in a row… and she showed up at my front gate on the forth day (unannounced)… manic… and ready to go to the watercolor museum. It took me 10 minutes to put on my chanclas because I was so tired… and declined the invitation needing a day of rest.
I think she had a personal vendetta against gringos and was torturing me… with pleasure! I professed that I had nothing to do with the lost Mexican territory of Texas… but she could have it back if she’d stop trying to kill me through tourism. She claimed that wasn’t the case and was just proud and wanting to show me all of Mexico… all of it… in 2 weeks. Except I was there for 3 months. We did see much… and my shoes and feet were smoking after week one. And I still tend to believe she was death marching me… pinche gringos!!!
Teotihuacán was a day trip and we fucked around finding transportation to get there. She’s chilanga… and I was convinced she knew all we needed… and it was several hours round trip just for the day. Have caution… just because someone is local… they do not know all. I was quite happy to see it with my own eyes... it was a hassle to get there and back… and i didn’t see all.

This trip I will visit my friend Fatima, whom works there, and fully explore the pyramids, stay the night in San Martin… and relax my culo about having to see EVERYTHING. I postponed my Valle de Brava trip… and rebooked it for next week… because it’s the tail end of Semana Santa and the children are out of school… I traveled once on holy weekend… never again. And I now have stacks of overlapping plans… trying to make up for lost time while I’m in country.
It’s a trolly bus or metro to Central de Autobuses del Norte… and a camión de Teotihuacán from there… it dumps you off right at the gate of the pyramids… 80 pesos one way… easy peasy.
I made it to the Zona Arqueológica de Teotihuacán. Approached to purchase a ticket… the dude asked me if I was a national or extraño? I’m a blue-eyed whitey guy… maybe be he asked because of my awesome Spanish accent. I’m a stranger in this land… so 220 pesos.
I entered… wandered… taking fotos… dodging guys selling stuff… it’s an amazing site… with a power vortex… and soaking it all in will blow your mind. The weather was mild… but you are sun expose the entire time… so you get hot, thirsty and hungry in short order.
After a couple of hours it was time to track down Faty. She lives in San Martin and works on site… but not today. I met her outside the park and we hustled off for snacks and more adventure.
I can be quite happy exploring on my own… but having the company of local is a treat. We made some rounds… caves, cacao, pulque… night roaming.
I hit my head in the caves… I probably needed something like that to open my eyes a bit. The cacao joint is a tourist setup. The gal asked, “Spanish or English?”
I asked, “hablas inglés?!?”
“Noooo…”
“pues… español”
And I was given a bunch of samples… and chocolate con chile 🌶️🌶️🌶️ which I dig… but this one had chunks of chile seeds… and was hot as fuck and burned a hole in my stomach. 🥵
Cutie Faty speaks no English… except for numbers… some numbers. She is attentive company and I manage with having conversations in Spanish… well… until it get deep… and she wants to know what I’m thinking. “Que piensas???” I don’t know what I’m thinking… I’m a dude.
We sat through the pulque demo (in Spanish) and I’m a fan of pulque… and the gal mentions it’s probiotic attributes and I’m totally into that at this moment. We tried samples of this and that. Pulque… plain, strawberry, honey… and then the products… soap, syrup, salve, lotion… shampoo. Shampoo?!? Señora Pulque dropped her hair… and “toca!” I felt her hair… and it was soft… like silk… and I’m stroking some strange lady’s hair (after drinking pulque) and “hace calor aquí!” 🥵 so… I bought 2 shampoos… one for me, one for Faty.
We had a couple more drinks and wandered into San Martin. There’s a tianguis on Tuesday… but it’s a night. I don’t think I’ve seen a night tianguis. All of the things… food, clothes, shiny things, car batteries… everything.
I have a cheapy room in San Martin… but it’s a new build… and as nice as any place I’ve ever stayed. I’m reluctant to leave… and think I want to stay another night. But… no…
Morning patrols in San Martin centro… lunch with Fatima… and then the bus stop. It’s an easy route back to Mexico… and I was mildly disappointed because the trip went by so quick and I wanted a little siesta. Then… Metro 5 to Metro 3. MetroBus for one stop and home.
I’ll be here in the city for 3 more days and then off to the Valle de Bravo for the next adventure. Until then… call me, let’s talk in the English language… it’ll be a blast.
🇲🇽🥰🙏☯️😘
